Wordless Wednesday: The "digestion" system

Some time ago, we found this random drawing by Junior J. He had tried to draw his brother. He included a look at what he calls the "digestion system", and added additional diagrams showing how a normal liver looked like, as well as how food looks in the gut as it is digested (the little box on the left). He then asked the hubs to draw in the heart and lungs for him, and to add the label "normal liver".

I am loving his keen interest in science and the human body. And that funny habit of flipping his letters? It's more or less corrected itself with some practice!

Wordless Wednesday: Drawing animals

Junior J used to take Ed Emberley's book and ask me to draw animals for him. He would describe the steps to take (draw a rectangle next! add lines!), and he would be delighted at the animals that appeared at the end. However, we stopped these sessions since I was so busy with baby.

However, I noticed his drawings have been more detailed and realistic these days: he draws what he sees around him, and draws many dinosaurs. So recently, I casually left "Ed Emberley's Drawing Book of Animals" on his place at the table.

And wow, has he been drawing! He carries our box of crayons and his sketch book around, and draws and draws and draws:

Some days, he hides behind the door and quietly draws while I put baby to bed.
I love watching him work, and seeing that intense look of concentration on his face.

The book is easy to follow, with step by step clear instructions. Your child does not need to be able to read to draw...

All drawn by Junior J on his own!

... so long they are able to draw common shapes like circles, squares and lines, they would be able to draw all these animals!

If you're interested, this book is going at over 40% off on Amazon now (click here), as well as this other title by Ed Emberley. You can find a whole range of drawing books by him here! The book on animals is also available at the library (Bukit Merah and Jurong West branches).

PS: This is NOT a sponsored post. The links to Amazon are affiliate links, but it's at no added cost to you!

Wordless Wednesday: The kitchen wall

We've finally gotten down to framing and hanging up all our posters and canvases recently. One of the areas we worked on last week was the kitchen.

If you've seen our kitchen tour, you might have noticed we had this wall, which has been left blank for the longest time. So I added plants, and put them into these pots on a stand, that were from a lovely gift from a friend last time:

We also put up a cat painting by Junior J, which had cheery bright colours that suited the yellow of our kitchen, as well as some little food postcards which I had purchased from a bookstore in Germany. (These used to grace the wall above the boys' cardboard kitchen.)

The boys love staring at these postcards, and identifying the food items:

And here's how the wall looks like now! The colours really pop against the white wall, and help to make the kitchen a happy place to be in.

Wordless Wednesday: Packing progress

The packing seem like its never-ending and there's still a long way to go, but we're getting there, slowly. I've just finished packing most of the boys' books into our Expedit bookshelves, and thus far its' remained neat for the past two days. I wonder if we can keep it this way!

PS: The chair was decorated by Junior J, using 3M's Scotch brand tapes

Wordless Wednesday: A glimpse of crazy

We left the boys alone for 5 minutes. And came back to our room to see this:

They had emptied a whole bag of flowers and leaves over our bed. On newly changed bedsheets. What can I say? Life has never been the same again since the arrival of our boys!

Wordless Wednesday: Dino drawings

Junior J loves to draw, but most days it has been all sorts of strange squiggles and shapes. Some time ago, he started trying to draw real objects, and started drawing jellyfish, snails and later on, lions. And recently, he's graduated to sketching dinosaurs, and sticking them up on the walls with washi tape:

A is for Apatosaurus

Velociraptor, with hooked claws, saying AHA!

Ankylosaurus with its club tail and armor, eating a plant.

Stegosaurus. This one's my fav!

B is for Brachiosaurus.

Since he's never gone for art classes (save for 2 school holiday sessions), I found it really interesting to see how his drawing skills have developed. I love his dinos, how round and happy looking they look, and how he's managed to capture the essential features of each, from long necks to spikes or plates!

Wordless Wednesday: My three babies

Some days, the older two like to pretend they are babies:

They place baby's beanie bolster over their tummy, kick their legs in the air and start going "Waawaaawaa" as well as declare "I need patpat!", and give each other pats on the tummy. Its noisy, but hilarious though. But I think it gives baby a headache!

Wordless Wednesday: Never alone

Occasionally there come moments that are so photo-worthy, you cannot help but snap a photo. However, sometimes, all you have is your old wonky iPhone, but to me, such moments are better captured in a blur photo, then to have no photo at all.

So this is one of those grainy iPhone shots. Baby J was fretting in the cot, and along came Lil J, who was reading his baby book. So Lil J opened the book (upside down if you notice), and told Baby J a story ("once upon a time, there was a... once upon a time"). Then Junior J came and started reading his book (as you can see, he knows how to actually flip the book with the pages facing baby J, so that he can see the images). And both were reading to the baby, and the baby stopped crying. For a few minutes that is. Enough for me to get whatever I needed to get. I must say I'm enjoying this period before the littlest is old enough to get into fights with the older two!
