The first trimester was rather rocky, with the usual pregnancy symptoms plus spotting, so we decided to wait for the pregnancy to stabilize before telling our friends. Thankfully, the nausea has been bearable. Oddly enough, I've been feeling sick in the evenings (this was the same for Junior J), but for number 2 the nausea comes on with a vengeance usually at about 6 pm, the time that I am about to cook dinner. Which means I usually start every cooking session sitting on the kitchen floor, reading my cookbook and eating sour plums. Heh.
This round, the tiredness has been really bad. I spent the whole first trimester walking around like a zombie... and I've been feeling guilty for slacking with regards to planning the little boy's home-learning activities (which I'm hoping to pick up again since the exhaustion seems to be lifting somewhat now that I've started the 2nd tri.). On top of that, I couldn't sleep well at night, and would wake at unearthly hours. Some days, I would end up just locking myself in Junior J's room and let him play on his own while I tried to nap... sometimes I'd get away with 40 winks while he pottered around, but some days I'd wake up to find that he'd gotten into some scrape or other, or that I was being used as a train track or that my shorts were stuffed full of dried pasta!
Lest this post start sounding like a "I feel so pathetic now I'm pregnant" post, here's what I've been thankful for:
:: God blessing us with baby number 2. It took a while for him/her to come along (we suspect it was due to extended breastfeeding, and I think there was also an early miscarriage a few months back), so I'm so glad that this pregnancy has stabilized and that Junior J can look forward to having a playmate...
:: The hubby, who has been such a great help. I was half-asleep most of the time during the Taiwan trip, especially since my gynae banned me from coffee, and the hubby really helped alot when it came to taking care of Junior J. He's also been bringing the boy out on his own whenever he's free, so that I can get some rest, or at least be able to finish the housework without having to run up and down to keep an eye on the boy. And he's extremely patient with me, considering how hormonally crazy I can be some days. :p
:: Junior J, who's been rather "understanding", and usually is happy to play on his own in the mornings when his Mama just cannot crawl out of bed. He also asks to pray for baby and says "baby in Mama's tummy, in the belly button". :)
:: My mum, who periodically comes over to give me a hand with the chores or with baby-sitting...
:: All the prayers from close friends/relatives who knew about the rocky nature of the pregnancy...
Hopefully the second trimester's going to be better... meanwhile, we'd appreciate your prayers! :)
PS: Thanks for all the concern about the little boy... Our PD suspects he's got mycoplasma (which seems to be going around these days), and put him on antibiotics. Right now, he seems to be slightly better, and the fever is supposed to break in about two days after starting meds. He's spread it to me though, but thankfully mine seems to be a milder version... so hopefully we'll all be better soon!
CONGRATS BABE!!! Have a smooth pregnancy and take care of yourself ok.
