{Small Spaces} Lil Pumpkin's cozy corner

Most of us in space-starved Singapore do not have the luxury of having a separate playroom for the kids, and today we have Ai Sakura sharing about her daughter's cozy corner. I was impressed with how she managed to carve out a play area for her daughter in her bedroom, and how she uses shelving to maximize storage space!

Ai Sakura is a full-time working mother with a beautiful toddler daughter. She hopes to inspire and show how passions like travel, food, fashion and photography can exist in a family setting. Ai Sakura shares insights and ideas about parenting and living in Singapore on her personal blog, Sakura Haruka

This is Lil Pumpkin's cozy corner inside our bedroom. We are preparing her own little room as her Christmas gift this year {see some of my inspirations for her new room} but this is the current place that we created for her to play, read and take comfort in.

We wanted an environment that was colourful, and where Lil Pumpkin can be herself by showcasing her artwork, her toys, her interests. It's a place of organised chaos, as being a child, I don't expect Lil Pumpkin to be exceptionally "clean" and she should feel like she is living in a real home, not a showroom. Her books and toys are mostly exposed {instead of being in containers} to encourage her to make use of them as I think if they are out of sight, they are out of mind.

Her little reading nook filled with comfortable cushions and beanbags. She likes to sit here with her toys or with us to enjoy a book.

Part of her book collection is on the bottom shelves within her easy reach. I rotate the collection every once in while when her interests in the current collection wanes. I don't usually buy decorations for her space, but use her toys and accessories to personalise it.

Shelves for her art supplies, games, knick-knacks etc. The chain with the clipboards displays some of her art-pieces and photos.

Family photos, memories from our own childhood and little pieces we picked up from our travels line the shelves too.

Lil Pumpkin likes to choose her own clothes and play dress-up, so we hung some of her favourite outfits at this area to make it more accessible to her. The red box contains her accessories. The clothes rail is actually a kitchen utensil rail that we attached upside down.

As much as this cozy corner was made for Lil Pumpkin, I love spending time here as a family too.
