Monday made: Roll, roll, roll that ball!

Yikes... the haze is back.  Anyway, the boy has been staying indoors most of the time since he's been sick and coughing, so when he napped the other day I took some time, gathered a cereal box and some toilet paper rolls (the hubs will tell you I hoard these for craftwork and that he cannot understand why I keep all this junk!)... and made this:

Since he currently loves playing with balls and constantly likes to repeat his actions over and over again (like throwing something down from the sofa, climbing down to get it, clambering up unto to the sofa, while repeating it 20 over times...), I figured he might like a modified "marble drop"where he could see how the ball rolls down, down and down.  I got this idea from the project work that we used to give our students, however, I made it to be used with a larger rubber ball, since I was worried the fellow might try to eat the marbles.

To make something similar, you just need to cut open a cereal box, and use tape/glue to paste the ramps (made using toilet rolls cut into half, and pasted together).  I was in a rush, so I used masking tape, but I tried to prettify it a little by adding rainbows to the tape.  Rainbows always make everything look better right?  (Oh, and older kids could make these on their own, and you can stack them into a tall tower for one really impressive marble drooooop...)

One rather dizzy dino from numerous rides down rainbows...

  3. You're really very creative to be able to come up with something like that for your boy to play with! My younger one (Jaden) loves to throw balls too... Maybe I should try making one of those. But it looks difficult to me...

  6. hey Jus! What wonderful creation! You know what? I was racking my brains on what best cause-and-effect ball-rolling down-ramp toy I could find and I found a toy that used to be in the market but no longer available - Edushape Advanced Ball Drop Set. It's only available from US. They stop bringing into Singapore as there's no demand for it (Suppliers told me) I was so adamant on getting it several months ago - but the shipping cost is too costly that I hesitated. Thank goodness I din get it... there's more fun in using value-for-$ simple toys available locally and creativity is in the mind.. I realise this while watching bb plays. Any toy could provide cause-and-effect! And seeing this creation of yours makes me feel ashamed of my impulsiveness I had last time... 3 cheers and applause to your creation and staying env friendly! :)
