Foodie Fridays: Yummy for my tiny tummy... (& giveaway!)

A week ago, Junior J and I were invited to a food tasting session at Petit Bowl, which provides frozen meals for children.  Since Junior J could be such a fussy eater at times, I jumped at this chance to let him try varying types of food, and he had a nice time playing with the other kids too (while I had a good time chatting with all the mummies!).  The boy and I got to taste little bits of various dishes such as creamy chicken penne, beef curry, mac & cheese, alphabet pasta with cod and spinach, as well as desserts such as apricot yoghurt and banana and fig porridge:

Some of the yummy stuff we got to try.

The founder of Petit Bowl, Josephine Koh, was there to tell us more about the "frozen solutions" produced by the store, which were designed for children ranging from 4 months to 6 years.

These meals are made using only organic fruit/vegetables/grains, with fresh meat or fish, and contain no added salt, sugar or artificial flavourings (which was something I really liked, since all these flavour additives are my main concern of not letting the boy eat too much "outside" food).  As they are frozen, the nutritional content of the food is preserved, and it makes for quick meal preparation since you just need to steam the food and serve it!  The meals can be kept fresh in a normal household freezer for up to a month.  Really convenient, especially for working parents who find it challenging to find time to cook meals for their kids.

What I also liked about the frozen meals was the variety of choices available (over 70 dishes have been designed, and are "rotated" based on a seasonal basis).  Such a wide range of choices would be good for exposing your kids to different tastes and "testing" out their preferences, without having to slave away for an afternoon at the stove, only to get frustrated because your child pushes away the food or spits it out, and declares "don't want!" (which has happened to me before).  You can also choose the size of your meals to suit your child, and I thought those baby starter packs (which contain purees for babies in little capsules to ensure minimal wastage) were pretty ingenious too.

All that being said, the proof of the pudding is in the eating... so how did the kids like the food?  While some indicated certain preferences, I think they generally liked the meals...

Daphne's Kirsten trying the food...

We were amazed at Madeline's baby J... who happily ate everything that was offered to her!

In our case, our little fussy eater tried the stronger tasting dishes like the curry and lamb, but was not very taken with them.  However, he LOVED the pasta dishes (and all the desserts too), and finished everything in the little cups!  I ended up buying one of the meals (the cod, spinach and alpha pasta) for his lunch, since I decided to meet the hubby for lunch at United Square after the session.  Guilt-free eating out! :)

And guess what!  Petit Bowl is generously giving away two $25 vouchers, so two readers will get to try out the Petit Bowl meals. :)  To enter, leave a comment on this post, sharing which of the following statements you would agree on (just type out the numbers of the statements, and there is no limit to the number of statements you can choose):

Also, do pop by the Petit Bowl e-shop, and share if you have other products that you hope the shop would offer.  Winners will need to collect your vouchers from Petit Bowl, and this giveaway ends next Sunday, 31st July, at 12 noon.  If you want more chances for the giveaway, you can hop over to the blogs by PC, Ruth, Madeline and Daphne, since they will be hosting similar giveaways across this week and next week.  Have a blessed weekend!

  4. Statements 1, 2 are true for me.

With these frozen meals, even when I'm away and unable to cook for my child, I can be ensured that he's fed healthy meal by my child's carer. It'll be more convenient if the meals can be purchase in more locations.
