Wild Wednesdays: Upper Peirce Reservoir

Its been a busy week, so I think I'm running a little behind, since I'm blogging Wednesday's post on Friday!  Anyway, my MIL is visiting for the week, and we took her and Junior J out to explore a place we've yet to visit:  Upper Peirce Reservoir.

The place turned out to be rather charming.  Though the surrounding grounds aren't all that big, its a nice place for a quiet family picnic by the water.

You can spend some time just looking out at the peaceful scene...

... and take time to smell the flowers.

You could admire them while they are still budding...

... or in full bloom!

I know Junior J did, since he spent a long time touching some of the blooms!

And one really nice thing about this place?

The loooonnng straight path that flanks the side of the reservoir.  Since this place is relatively quiet compared to more popular nature places like East Coast Park, it'll be a great spot to teach the kids how to cycle or roller-blade, without having to worry about them having to dodge cyclists!  Junior J had a great time just walking along (when he was not poking flowers!)...

And there's some interesting wildlife here.  We spotted a white bellied sea eagle (how I wished I had brought my 70-200mm lens... I was shooting using our 85 mm prime...), and this pretty little kingfisher...

Stork-billed kingfisher
The place may be small, and simple, but we all sure had a good time!

Have a great weekend!
