Saturday scrapping: Inspired by Donna Downey

Hello hello... I spent part of my free time this week watching videos over at Donna Downey's blog, since our Papermarket assignment for the month was to create a layout inspired by Donna's style.  Initially, I was really stuck since I'm not too used to mixed media and the like (and playing with paints just scares me), but watching her videos can really inspire you!  (Btw, Donna Downey will be here and will be teaching in Creative Escape on the 30th of April, and you can even win a spot by submitting layouts inspired by Donna!)

So I used a photo taken in Yangmingshan recently... added loads of fussy-cut flowers (from Crate Paper's Portrait collection):

And threw in a Donna foam stamp and happy paint colours:

All the flowers remind me of the glorious spring blossoms over in Taiwan... Walking through those sakura trees in bloom was quite a "magical" experience. :)  (can you spot the word "magic"?  Its courtesy of "The Secret Garden" again.  Heee.)

Patterned papers and old book pages were lightly painted with white and yellow paint...

Actually I was torn between using yellow and blue flowers, or red and blue flowers.  The hubby, opinionated as always about these matters, told me to go with red.  What do you think?  Red, or yellow?

Gotta go, hope you're having a great weekend thus far!

  1. i like the blue, yay go with blue, go blue! haha
and love that b&w photo for this layout!

  2. the red seems to tie up with ur butterflies quite nicely.

  3. Red was a good choice. Nice looking LO as always!

  4. oh!! this is so nice! such a success in your Donna style atempt!! love it! so whimsical!

  5. I must say red. Hope you are having a nice weekend, my friend!

  6. The red seems to bring some warmth and richness to the piece.

I find it sweet that your hubby gives his opinions on your artwork! :)

  7. Hooray hooray! Way to go with the being brave and working with paint! You did a good job! :)

  8. Thanks everyone! Seems like hubby was right, red and blue was the way to go...

Sharon: :) It was scary, pushing down the stamp after applying the paint, I nearly couldn't breathe! haha...

Corsage: Haha, yes, he always peers over my shoulder and gives me funny comments. :p
